Description:

Reporting to the Senior Manager – Municipal Engineering, the incumbent designs and completes the landscape architecture for the development of parks, playgrounds, public areas and other spaces, by taking into account human, aesthetic, economic and functional factors, while controlling onsite completion.

Departmental mission:

To ensure the longevity and proper functioning of all public facilities, equipment, and buildings, in order to support sustainable development and improve citizens’ quality of life.

General responsibilities and goals:

• Analyze projects by carrying out any research required, such as the topography, orientation, drainage, vegetation, soil, utilities, traffic, neighbourhood, etc., in order to come up with a preliminary design.
• Review development projects, visit sites and observe existing conditions.
• Design and prepare detailed development and completion plans, for levelling, layout and planting purposes, also including construction details.
• Prepare, in part or in full, the specifications, estimates, administrative reports, meeting minutes and other required documents.
• Visit the various ongoing work sites and ensure the work is being completed according to specifications, by maintaining quality, look and aesthetics.
• While the work is being completed, make sure that any amendments or substitutions deemed necessary for the development are being made.
• Determine workflow and make sure deadlines are met.
• Coordinate one’s own work, as well as that of other professionals.
• Make sure that projects are completed on budget and within specified limits.
• Maintain ties with other departments, private or public organizations, business owners, etc., in order to share information and data.

Job requirements:

The incumbent must hold a university degree in landscape architecture, in addition to having two (2) years of relevant experience in the field or any other combination of education and experience deemed equivalent pursuant to the policy in force. The incumbent must be a member or intern of The Association des architectes paysagistes du Québec.

Other requirements :

• Good knowledge of AutoCAD;
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office;
• Good knowledge of spoken and written English and French¸
• Ability to resolve complex problems related to her or his field of activity
• Customer service skills;
• Ability to organize and plan her or his work
• Skills in supervising and evaluating project work carried out under her or his responsibility
• Very good interpersonal skills, team spirit, tact and courtesy
• A valid Class 5 driver’s license

Schedule:

For the period between Thanksgiving and the first (1st) Monday of May: Monday to Friday inclusively, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., minus one (1) hour for lunch.

For the period between the first (1st) Monday of May and Thanksgiving: Monday to Thursday inclusively, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., minus forty-five (45) minutes for lunch; Friday, 8:00 a.m. to noon.
